Photo Of The Day: December 3, 2008

Tonight the lights get turned on the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in New York City. It is an annual tradition, which started in 1931. The tree this year is a Norway Spruce, which is typically selected -- but since Norway Spruce in forests generally don't reach the 75-90 foot height required, the tree is usually one ornamentally planted in someone's front or back yard. The tree is decorated with 35,000 lights that stretch over five miles, and a star, and nothing else. Still, it looks mighty good, as seen in this shot of last year's tree.
