Photo Of The Day: December 26, 2008

In Asbury Park, NJ, there is a famous painting of grinning face named Tillie. Originally painted in 1955-56 on the side of the Palace Amusements building, Tillie was saved from demolition when the building was razed in July 2004 and is in storage awaiting placement on the new building going on the site. Meanwhile, a tribute to Tillie, named for George C. Tilyou, owner of Steeplechase Park in Coney Island, NY, which had a similar grinning face on its signage, still exists on the WonderBar on Ocean Avenue, as seen here.
